Reading
Reading is probably the most important skill your child can learn.
Experts say that the single best predictor of how well a child will do in school is how much reading takes place in the home!
- Children who have been read to will pick up a book and orient it with the spine on the left and face up. They know the direction to turn the pages.
- They have a longer attention span: they have learned to sit still and pay attention.
- They have better vocabularies.
- They are better writers.
- Reading expands the imagination and foster creativity.
There are several aspects to learning to read.
- The first stage is to learn the mechanics, learning the alphabet, and reading individual words.
- Next, they learn to read and understand simple sentences.
- Gradually, they read longer books and can answer questions about the story.
